Shimla to Levy ‘Green Tax’ on Tourists from April 1
Planning a trip to Shimla will get a tad bit expensive as the city will charge a Green Tax from all tourists and outstation vehicles that enter Shimla starting from April 1. The order has been passed by Shimla Municipal Corporation. This means, now travelers entering Shimla will have to pay several taxes including the existing entry tax and toll charges that they will have to pay at a plaza coming up at Sanwara, Dharampur. All the vehicles registered in Himachal Pradesh will be exempted from the tax. However, all highway users will be required to pay the toll. The move, as NGT suggests will help curb pollution in the Shimla, which is a prominent tourist spot.
