Q1. Can you share a bit about your writing process for this book? How did you approach developing the characters and their stories?
At the start of writing my book, I identified the seven leading stress factors and outlined the chapters accordingly. From there, I embarked on free writing for each chapter, allowing the details to flow organically from my consciousness. For each story, I began with a predetermined theme, location, and the protagonist’s primary identity, including their age and gender. From that point on, the story unfolded naturally from my subconscious.
Q2. How do you balance your writing with your other professional pursuits, such as your work in social networking and spiritual development?
Writing the book during the pandemic became a refuge amidst the chaos, as I balanced my startup responsibilities with my spiritual development. It provided me with a sense of inner calm and balance. I always wrote after a routine of physical exercise followed by meditation, which brought structure, discipline, and hope into my life.
Q3. In your book, you explore seven common stress factors. Why did you choose these particular themes, and how do they resonate with today’s readers?
Through my interactions with viewers of my Facebook podcast, Life Lessons in the Time of Corona, I quickly realized that the stressors I identified were the ones most commonly affecting people. While there are certainly other stressors, I believe these are the most universally experienced. The stress factors in the book are relevant across different time periods, geographies and cultures. They impact people around the world in similar ways, though they may arise from different circumstances.
Q4. In the context of post-pandemic life, how do you think stress has changed for individuals, and what relevance does your book have now?
People are as stressed as ever. During the pandemic, there was widespread panic due to financial constraints and limited medical support, with lives under constant threat. The stress was largely focused on one or two factors. Today, as life has returned to normal, the singular fear of death has been replaced by a broader range of stresses, with the major ones explored in this book. The book’s significance in the post-pandemic world lies in its aim to help readers harness stress as fuel for personal transformation.
Q5. In your view, what are some common misconceptions people have about stress and its effects?
People often view stress as a negative external force and blame their circumstances for how they feel. This perspective merely scratches the surface. Stress is the negativity we experience internally—it’s a byproduct of our reactions to events, not the events themselves. If we can change the way we respond to situations, stress will never overwhelm us, no matter the circumstances.
Stress to Zest features diverse characters facing common stressors, highlighting their transformative journeys toward resilience and renewed vitality. This collection serves as a guide for turning stress into a powerful ally for personal growth.
